In others, breast implant revision is performed to permanently remove implants and restore the breasts to their natural size. Your plastic surgeon should be board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, making one of the most important questions, “Are you board-certified through the ABPS?” The ABPS is the only certifying board for plastic surgeons that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
In addition to being board-certified, your plastic surgeon should perform breast implant replacement in a hospital or accredited surgical center. Another important question is, “Where do you perform breast implant replacement surgery?”
When you are undergoing breast implant revision, it is important to understand your options. Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon about the types of breast implants they offer along with questions like, “What can I expect from implant revision surgery?”
And remember, just because a plastic surgeon is board-certified and has hospital permissions does not mean they are particularly skilled at breast implant replacement. Gauge your surgeon’s experience by asking, “How many of these procedures do you perform – on average – in a year?” Ask to see before and after pictures as well.
